Position
Overview:The
INNER ACTIVIST,
a project of Tides Canada Initiatives, is an initiative of diverse facilitators
and educators with a passion for social and environmental ju
stice. We offer
leadership development courses designed to help individuals and communities
grow the essentials skills they need to be an effective force for change in
their lives, workplaces and world. We believe that when our inner knowledge and
values are in alignment with our outer change-making work, each of us can tap
our full capacity to creatively, caringly transform ourselves and the world.
Our courses currently take place in a retreat setting at the Haven Institute on
Gabriola Island, British Columbia.

We are seeking an
individual to work part time from their home to assist us with outreach and
enrolment. Short-term objectives are to help meet our course enrolment goals
through connecting with potential participants. Our overall long-term approach
is to work as part of a team to establish and deepen relationships of trust,
respect and mutuality with key stakeholder communities including equity-seeking
communities (Ex. First Nations and groups facing systemic injustices based on
their gender identity, race, religion, culture, age etc.).
The Inner Activist
operates as a virtual office, and therefore the Outreach & Enrolment Coordinator
will work virtually from their home in British Columbia. The position will be
an important and integral part of our values-based leadership team dedicated to
creatively evolving our outreach and enrolment strategy. Our enrolment goal is
to register a minimum of 17 and maximum of 30 participants in each of the three
Inner Activist’s courses offered each year.
Anticipated
Start Date:
Mid-February 2015 for 1 Year with possibility of extension
Location: The successful candidate
will work from their home office and will be responsible for maintaining their
own telecommunication, internet and computing equipment. They may be located
anywhere in British Columbia.
Salary &
Benefits:
This is a part time position, working 20 hours a week at a rate of $400 per
week. In the first year, benefits will include enrollment in the MSP group
plan. Should the term extend past one year, the benefit package will be
reviewed with the intention of providing long term viability of the position.
Key
Responsibility Areas
- Work
with the Project Director to understand the essential outreach and
enrolment protocols, including the presentation points to be used during
contact with leads, existing relationships with key networks & alumni,
and implementation of our engagement & relationship-building strategy - Help
shape these protocols based on your knowledge of what supports building
respectful and trusting relationships with the communities we are serving - Work
with the Manager of Marketing & Operations to understand the marketing
and operational supports for outreach and enrolment processes - Work
with both staff to generate leads and enroll participants by planning and
organizing a daily work schedule to contact and/or follow-up on existing
or potential leads through a variety of channels (e.g. phone, email,
Skype, GoToMeeting, teleconference, texting, in person, etc.) - Adjust
content of outreach presentation to reflect information needs of various
sectors - Build
relationships with key organizations and community groups that support our
commitment to being relevant and accessible to diverse communities - Use
Nation Builder Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database to track
prospects and participant enrolment and keep all staff informed of progress
and strategies of engagement - Work
with the Project Director and Marketing & Operations Manager to refine
outreach and enrolment function by identifying strengths and weaknesses
and making recommendations to improve or innovate our outreach and enrolment
strategy
Qualifications
Required:
General experience
and skills:
- Self-confident,
with outstanding communication & people skills - Belief
in the power of group learning, and enjoy supporting people to connect
with the opportunity to take our courses - Comfortable
and experienced with being in a sales function, including prospecting,
making presentations and closing - Knowledgeable
and experienced in working with diverse communities and in strengthening
equity, inclusion and cross-cultural communication. Has self-knowledge of
your own relationship to power - Able
to work from home and connect with people through various platforms (e.g.
online, teleconferencing, etc.) - Experience
and/or familiarity with various sectors such as non-profit, environmental,
social justice, social entrepreneurial, government, corporate, etc. - Knowledgeable
about the benefits of leadership and personal development training - Shares
the values of the Inner Activist program www.inneractivist.com
Hardware/Software
Experience and Skills:
- Ability
to quickly understand software that supports our outreach and enrolment
efforts (e.g. Nation Builder, Gift Tools, Outlook/Gmail, GoToMeeting,
Skype, teleconferencing, etc.)
