Organization Description:
The Ignatius Jesuit Centre is a not for profit charity situated on 600
acres of woodlands, wetlands, trails and farmland just outside of
Guelph Ontario. Since 1913, Ignatius Farm has served as the well of
sustenance for the Jesuit community in the region. In the last 20
years, Ignatius Farm has evolved to become a model for organic
agriculture and the mentoring of organic growers. Located at the
northern perimeter of Guelph, Ontario we bridge the urban with rural,
and invite our surrounding community to visit and get involved with
their local farm.
• Ignatius Farm provides fresh, local, organic vegetables and fruits
to the broader community through our Community Shared Agriculture
program, a Farmers’ Market, restaurants, and special orders.
• Our 3 acres of Community Gardens and our active volunteer program
are very popular with those who appreciate working in healthy soil and
our beautiful surroundings.
• Ignatius Farm additionally rents land to various small farm businesses.
Job Description:
• Coordinate structured farm education programs. Includes facilitating
farm intern program ‘Principles and Practices of Organic Agriculture’,
and developing education modules in leadership training and ecological
agriculture suitable for farm interns, IJC staff, and the public
• Coordinate Community Gardens: field preparations, garden maps & plot
allocations, communications with gardeners, organizing volunteer roles
and activities
• Coordinate registration for CSA and garden plots, i.e. intake,
payment, data entry monitoring
• Coordinate farm workshares & volunteers, i.e. scheduling,
orientation, follow-up
• Create and write pieces for farm newsletters, social media ,
outreach and promotions
• Create and coordinate displays & visuals for farmstore, market, farm
information boards
• Coordinating seasonal farm events and farm representation at external events
• Support fundraising efforts of Farm Manager and Operations Director
Hours per week: 40 / week
Qualifications:
• Experience and/or educational background in organic agriculture
• Experience and/or educational background in developing and
implementing training programs
• Welcoming personality; community builder
• Ability to create and maintain a visual look for indoor/outdoor presentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Office
• Experience operating a tractor with implements is an asset
• First Aid/CPR, Valid G class drivers licence
• Health and Safety experience
