H.E.L.P. (Hope,
Educate, Love, and Protect), is a U.S based 501(c) (3) non-profit organization
registered with the NGO Board of Malawi, that was established in 2006 to implement
community-driven, sustainable

strategies to alleviate poverty within African
regions. The headquarters are located in Cleveland, Ohio and the organization
is fully operational within Malawi, Africa. H.E.L.P. currently focuses its work
in the Balaka District which spans across 18 villages along the Western portion
of Liwonde National Park.

H.E.L.P. is seeking
an energetic, creative, experienced individual to join our team in Liwonde,
Malawi as the International Volunteer Coordinator! The International Volunteer
Coordinator (IVC) is a management position within H.E.L.P. Malawi, based at
Nanthomba Full Primary School near the Liwonde National Park, Malawi. The IVC
reports directly to the Country Director and works in collaboration with two
Program Managers. The IVC is responsible for all aspects of H.E.L.P. Malawi’s
volunteer program (volunteer recruitment, training, supervision, budget,
records) and also runs the afterschool English Activity Class (3 days a week)
held at H.E.L.P. Malawi’s rural Nanthomba Primary School.

Job
Description for the International Volunteer Coordinator (IVC)

  • Advertise:
    Develop methods to increase visibility of H.E.L.P. to potential volunteers
  • Recruit:
    Encourage people to apply for the International Volunteer Program (IVP)
  • Implement
    a volunteer orientation program upon arrival of each volunteer
  • Place
    volunteers in a suitable standard to assist learners with lessons
  • Coordinate
    and implement the English Activity Class alongside volunteers
  • Develop
    additional projects for volunteers to implement or assist with at
    Nanthomba
  • Develop
    cost-saving strategies for the International Volunteer Program
  • Develop
    policies and procedures for IVP
  • Write
    weekly reports, blogs, building reports, and more
  • Coordinate
    and facilitate the after school feeding program
  • Give
    tours to visitors at Nanthomba
  • Assist
    Country Director, Program Manager, and other staff members with projects
    as needed

The IVC utilizes
online recruitment methods to identify qualified volunteer teachers who can
commit to a minimum of 3 months to tutor/teach English at Nanthomba Primary
School.

The successful
candidate needs

  • to be
    an excellent communicator;
  • highly
    organized
  • intrinsically
    motivated;
  • able to
    manage diverse volunteers,
  • collaborate
    with peers, teachers and community members
  • and
    work within an extremely rural village community.
  • act as
    a positive, culturally-sensitive, responsible role model for the students

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s
    degree in the social sciences, non-profit management, or a related field
    required
  • Experience
    in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and/or tutoring English
  • Experience
    studying or working abroad
  • Experience
    working within a non-profit or in a cross-cultural setting
  • Willingness
    to learn key words/phrases of the local language in order to assist
    students to English.
  • Willingness
    to commit to living in Malawi for a minimum of one year-must be in Malawi
    by August 1st

Compensation/Benefits A compensation/benefits package
includes: a salary, travelers insurance, housing at the Central Africa
Wilderness Safaris’ Mvuu camp, a nominal meal allowance and transportation
to/from Malawi, visas/permits necessary to work in Malawi.
