GVEP
supports the growth of energy-focused micro, small and medium sized
enterprises, as a means to drive economic prosperity and contribute to energy
access in the region in a way that is inclusive of people living in poverty. A
key element of this work is to link energy businesses, which we support, to
loan products and other finance.
In Rwanda, these
projects are focused on solar lighting and phone charging solutions, as well as
Pico-hydropower installations.
embarked on a partnership with the Swedish International Development
Cooperation Agency (Sida) to manage a multi-country programme to improve access
to finance for renewable energy enterprises in East Africa, including Rwanda.
Furthermore, it has existing projects in collaboration with the Energy Water
and Sanitation Authority (EWSA), the World Bank, and USAID.
The role
The Business Mentor
will provide business support that enables enterprises to become more effective
in managing their businesses, engage in marketing and access finance. The
Business Mentor will work closely with financial and technical specialists to
offer a range of services to support and guide enterprises at various stages of
their development, from starting a business to expansion and/or
diversification. The person in this role will be responsible for a cluster of
enterprises..
Key activities and
deliverables of the role will be to:
- identify
and recruit start-up and existing businesses in GVEP’s business areas and
technologies and conduct needs assessments of these businesses; - develop
business plans with the entrepreneurs; facilitate logistics and deliver
business development trainings on record keeping, marketing and sales,
costing and pricing, quality control and customer care, as well as
diversification; - mentor
businesses and give them advise on areas for improvement on a continuous
basis, and help them increase their knowledge about the business and
potential new markets; - collect,
analyse and report data on sales levels, target achievements of the
enterprises, as well as on business development activities that have been
carried out.
Expected
start date: 1st
March 2014 or as soon as possible.
