Greenpeace Canada is seeking a proven leader as Deputy Program
Director and Senior Mobilization Manager with a deep understanding of
engagement and mobilization in order to expand the reach and impact of
Greenpeace Canada.
This highly collaborative and innovative position not only acts as a
primary liaison between the Programs and Fundraising departments but
will also assist with the overall running of the Program department.
Major responsibilities:
• Providing vision, leadership, and accountability for GPC’s
mobilization strategy. Inspiring and encouraging team members to be
innovative in all aspects of their work, determining priorities,
assigning responsibilities, supervising and as needed, directing
staff.
• Directing and overseeing the planning, development, and
implementation of all aspects of Greenpeace Canada’s mobilization
strategy. Coordinating the development of objectives, strategies, and
program activities for all areas of mobilization, including ensuring
strong and integrated relationships between online and offline
mobilization
• Acting as the primary liaison between the Program and Fundraising
departments by maintaining clear, prompt and proactive communication
with the Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement and other
staff within the Fundraising department. Working in collaboration with
fundraising staff to effectively manage communications with Greenpeace
supporters (including the coordination of objectives and calendars for
mobilization and fundraising processes and outputs)
• Overseeing rigorous risk assessment as relates to actions,
communications, public relations, and mobilization for GPC. Ensuring
implementation of risk mitigation measures and sound decision-making
in accordance with this assessment. Working with the Program Director
to implement rapid response and crisis protocols as required.
• Overseeing the development of effective evaluation and reporting
mechanisms for all aspects of communications, actions, and
mobilization, including the development and reporting of key
performance indicators. Ensuring delivery of fundraising goals
included as part of the mobilization program.
• Working closely with colleagues on the GPC Program Management Team
to ensure maximum integration of all aspects of the actions,
communications, and mobilization programs with the work of other units
within the organization, including issue campaigns and fundraising.
Providing input with respect to overall strategic planning initiatives
for GPC.
• Supporting the implementation of the project model, including
participating in the set-up and oversight of project teams and
providing ongoing support to project leaders and other project team
members.
• Representing GPC in dealings with other national and regional
offices (NROs) and Greenpeace International. Building and maintaining
relationships with other NGOs, grassroots groups, and individuals as
related to mobilization..
• Overseeing the development and control of budgets within the
communications and digital mobilization, and actions and offline
mobilization teams. Negotiating additional funds for mobilization
initiatives from Greenpeace International and external partners.
• Providing support to the Director of Programs in ensuring the smooth
operation of the department, as required. Replacing the Program
Director in their absence.
Required skills and experience:
• extensive experience in campaigning, communication, and team management;
• a proven track record in developing and implementing successful
campaign strategies;
• a demonstrated commitment to environmental and social justice issues
including activism;
• bilingualism (English/French) or the ability to communicate well in
both languages will be considered a strong asset;
• proven ability to lead and collaborate with large and diverse groups;
• previous experience planning, developing, and implementing
strategies that advance organizational goals;
• experience leading and facilitating the development and use of new
communication, actions and mobilization tools;
• proven experience using sound judgment in risk analysis and mitigation;
• highly tuned time management, organizational, interpersonal,
communication and administrative skills;
• experience in preparation, monitoring and control of budget expenditures;
• previous experience directing, monitoring, motivating and managing
staff in a highly charged and fast-paced atmosphere;
• knowledge and understanding of Greenpeace’s overall goals;
• familiarity with nonviolent direct action strategies;
• excellent oral and written communication skills including public
speaking and presentation skills, as well as strong active listening
skills;
You will work with colleagues in Canada and around the world and you
must be able to travel, including internationally. The ability to work
weekends and evenings is sometimes required.
