Summary
As Communications
Officer, you will be an integral part of a dynamic
team that continues to build and develop an exciting vision for the
Green Party of Canada. With this as your goal, you would be
responsible to write external and internal communications products,
including media advisories, press releases and statements on a wide
range of issues, events and activities.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, you would work support
the Leader and Deputy Leader closely by working closely with both
Green Party and MP staff, partner organizations and colleagues from
across Canada to ensure that media influencers and the general public
are kept apprised of the relevant and important issues facing
Canadians on a timely basis.
Responsibilities:
Working under the direction of the Director of Communications and
working closely with the Leader’s office, MP Staff, including their
respective Chiefs of Staff, you will be responsible to:
• Write, edit, translate and publish media advisories, statements and
press releases, etc. to the Website, Facebook and other social media
platforms.
• Monitor traditional and social media activity and provide summaries
of events, activities and relevant news items on a daily basis
• Assist in coordinating press conferences
• Assist in responding to media inquiries.
• Act as a Chair in communications team meetings as required.
• Work closely with the Director of Communications to identify
additional opportunities for outreach and media interviews
• Manage the Green Party of Canada Facebook page, Twitter accounts,
etc., under the direction of the Communications Director
• Work closely with the Communication and Fundraising Directors to
help execute web-based issue campaigns, including content writing,
working with the IT department for technical needs and coordinating
editing and translation
• Work with the Communication and Fundraising Directors to help create
and implement social media and email campaigns.
• Other duties as required
Qualifications
• Experienced communications professional
• Media and public relations experience are considered an asset
• Knowledge ofsocial media trends and web technologies
• Knowledge of Canadian federal politics and the principles, policies
and culture of the Green movement in Canada
• Enjoy working with people and have a positive, professional, and
courteous attitude
• Self-starter with initiative, but also a team player
• Ability to adapt and work under pressure in meeting deadlines
• Ability to manage competing priorities
• Strong computer skills including publishing website content and
experience in social media
• Capacity to research and summarize complex issues quickly and concisely
• Proficiency in English
• Proficiency in French will be considered an asset
• Willingness to work overtime and on weekends when required
