Technical Mentors (CTMs)

UBEHO PROGRAM
International is building a strong team of Cooperative Technical Mentors (CTMs)
who will work directly and regularly with cooperatives supported by the
USAID/Higa Ubeho Program. The CTMs are part of a broader strategy
for increasing demand and delivery of affordable, appropriate and quality
technical assistance (TA) to cooperatives. This initiative is expected to
increase the number of affordable professionals available to assist
cooperatives to improve their operations in order to increase productivity, and
profitability, transparency in their operations.
The CTMs will play a key role in mentoring cooperatives to improve their
production, management and marketing practices. He/She serves as a mentor
offering appropriate training and coaching that will enable the cooperative to
better serve its members in a transparent manner, using a market-oriented
approach. Each CTM will receive training and handbooks to assure quality
TA. CTMs are expected to reside in the districts they serve and will work
independently under the supervision of the Global Communities’ Economic
Strengthening Team. Remuneration is based on a demand-driven
system, like a consultancy, whereby the cooperatives request specific services
and signs-off on all deliverables.
CTM services will include:
– Regular meetings at the cooperative level to advise the cooperative on
management, production, and marketing.
– Field training programmes for members, committees and cooperative employees
that are hands-on, practical, and efficient.
– Business planning support.
– Market research and strategy development.
Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Business; Enterprise
Management; Rural Development Economics, Agri-business or Cooperative
Management and a minimum of 1 years work experience with cooperatives. In
particular, candidates should have extensive knowledge of business development,
together with the ability to train and mentor groups to improve their
operation. He/she must be ready to work at the community-level to work
alongside cooperative members.
Candidates need to be strategic thinkers, with excellent analytical skills, who
are able to customize TA according to the unique needs of each
cooperative. Candidates should be able to work independently and with
minimal supervision. Sound MS-Office, and information management skills in
addition to fluency in Kinyarwanda which is mandatory and then English and/or
French as an advantage.
