Giroud steals headlines as Chelsea gets a crucial win over Norwich City

Olivier Giroud once again proved to be the savior as Chelsea managed to defeat Norwich City 1-0 in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The French striker’s vital goal came late in the first half as the Blues did just enough to get the full point at the outing on Tuesday.

Following Sheffield United’s humbling 3-0 defeat, everyone had been expecting Frank Lampard ‘s men to smoke against the already relegated Norwich City side.

Yet instead of the large goal margin, many punters had expected, in the 90 minutes of play at the Bridge, Chelsea could only score once.

Lately, the Blues have been living badly about the top four race. A 3-0 defeat this past weekend at Sheffield United had put them in a difficult position, although the inability of Leicester City and Manchester United to capitalize on the slip-up meant that they held on to third place in the table.

With Tuesday ‘s result, Chelsea are now unbeaten in 17 meetings with Norwich City in all competitions (W12 D5). Their last defeat to the Canaries came in December 1994.

However, this is the first time Chelsea will be scoring at less than two goals in their victory in five Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge.

As for Norwich City, they have now lost 25 games in this season’s Premier League – the most they ever lost in their history.

It was also a close affair in the reverse fixture, played on Carrow Road, as Chelsea beat Norwich then 3-2, with Tammy Abraham scoring a brace and Mason Mount scoring as well, while Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell got on the scoresheet for the Canneries.
