Girl Hub Rwanda is
looking for a world class Managing
Editor,
a creative and innovative specialist, who will guide
the editorial direction, content and vision for Rwanda’s first youth brand: Ni Nyampinga. You
are a natural leader with a passion for telling real stories that engage a
broad and diverse audience; you’ll be in charge of the editorial output of all
the Ni Nyampinga
Brand Platforms: the magazine, radio and mobile platform. Your aim is to
immerse in what life is like for girls in Rwanda. Through you Girl Hub’s branded
products will provide the definitive coverage of issues facing girls in Rwanda
today. You will be their voice in current affairs, align the content with the
organization’s strategy and vision, while mentoring and leading a team of girl
journalists.

Key duties
and responsibilities

  • Develop
    and deliver against the Content Strategy for Ni Nyampinga on a quarterly
    basis
  • Ensure
    the creative quality of Ni
    Nyampinga
    magazine, mobile and radio reflects a Rwandan girl
    tone and adheres to our brand guidelines
  • Manage
    3rd party creative partners to bring the strategy and brand
    guidelines to life
  • Lead
    and mentor a Journalism Trainer and team of girl journalists, to become Ni Nyampinga
    contributors and journalists – working closely with product leads to
    champion and deliver a multimedia integrated approach.
  • Training
    local talent is a key part of the role, and you’ll be working closely with
    an Assistant Managing Editor to manage, brief and co-ordinate the team of
    girl to collect and write stories for the platforms
  • Work with
    Ni Nyampinga
    Brand Team to ensure Ni
    Nyampinga
    editorial principles and tone of voice is adhered to
    in editorial products and relevant Girl Hub Rwanda initiatives
  • Support
    Ni Nyampinga
    journalists to represent Rwandan girls on the global and local stage.
  • Working
    with the Brand Team to develop the Ni
    Nyampinga
    Sustainability Business Plan to ensure editorial and
    creative excellence is maintained
  • Create
    and manage budget and contracts for the magazine, radio and mobile
    platform. Being a wizard with Girl Hub’s budgeting and contractual
    systems.

Essential
skills and experience

  • Media-trained
  • Previous
    experience in media houses or in a similar environment
  • Excellent
    spoken and written Kinyarwanda and English. Working knowledge of French an
    added advantage
  • Intimate
    knowledge of Rwandan culture
  • An
    understanding of brands and how they work with editorial content
  • Managing
    content across a variety of media platforms (magazine, digital, radio)
  • A
    highly developed aesthetic visual awareness and appreciation of visual
    storytelling
  • Excellent
    communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability
    to be creative under pressure
  • Proven
    ability to lead and develop a team
  • An
    understanding of how to successfully work with a global, cross cultural
    team
  • Comfortable
    with international and regional travel and able to do so on a semi regular
    basis
