We
have a fantastic opportunity for a Scriptwriter to join us on a 12 month
contract basis to work on Ni Nyampinga – our most established youth,
media platform, launched in 2011. Ni Nyampinga currently reaches 60%
of Rwanda’s population with its quarterly magazine, weekly radio show, mobisi

te
and other platforms.

You
will work alongside two other scriptwriters to write the scripts for the drama.
You’ll have to be able to meet tight editorial deadlines, have an eye for
detail, creativity and be capable of writing radio drama scripts for Rwanda.
You will also be expected to work hand-in-hand with our international script
writing consultant, to ensure the drama feels genuinely Rwandan and addresses
the keys learnings and objectives outlined by our strategy and impact
team.  
This
is a truly fantastic opportunity to play a key role in developing a new product
that will empower girls to catalyse change. 
Key
Responsibilities
Required
knowledge, skills and experience
  • Writing
    scripts for Ni Nyampinga Sakwe for the Rwandan market – working closely
    with other script writers, a gender advisor, senior manager of production
    and content and the drama project manager
  • Ensuring
    the drama series meets Girl Effect’s standards for quality
  • Using
    good editorial judgement, based on a thorough understanding of the
    objectives and target audience of the outputs
  • Generate
    your own creative and innovative ideas, nurture and develop new ideas from
    others and motivate fresh and imaginative approaches to the drama
  • Participate
    in an environment and processes via which original programme ideas are
    freely and positively generated, thereby continually improving and
    enriching output
  • Ensure
    that production adheres to the agreed timetable
  • Participate
    in training necessary to improve script-writing skills
  • Take
    responsibility for other elements of the project as and when required
  • Knowledge
    of writing for radio – and in particular writing in the voice of a Rwandan
    youth
  • Significant
    experience of writing Kinyarwanda for conversational style rather than
    written style
  • Proven
    ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying
    strengths and weaknesses in programme content and driving constant
    improvement in output
  • Knowledge
    of what life is like for rural young people in Rwanda
  • Evidence
    of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas – particularly
    those with the widest possible audience appeal. Evidence that own original
    creative ideas have become successful programmes or production initiatives
  • The
    ability to create a compelling vision, inspiring confidence and creativity
    across a production base
  • Strong
    understanding and commitment to Ni Nyampinga aims
  • Evidence
    of strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability
    to cope with a pressured production schedule in a dynamic and creative
    context, and an appreciation of the issues and difficulties involved with
    high quality standards in tight deadlines
  • Strong
    English language skills to communicate with an international team
