Job Description:
The Coordinator, Green Animation Program will be responsible for the coordination of all components of the project, and will provide culturally sensitive environmental opportunities for newcomers and immigrant communities in the Rexdale area aiming at promoting community engagement and increasing knowledge of the environment.

The coordinator provides support to the community in environmental capacity building and the train-the-trainer activities directed to community animators and leaders from partner agencies related to carbon footprint reduction.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and prepare training sessions, workshops and action-day logistics
• Facilitate discussions with local groups of newcomers and ethnic communities
• Publicize and promote community participation
• Liaison, communication and support to other agencies, community groups and volunteer workgroups.
• Carry-out baseline studies examining participating organizations’ carbon footprint, develop and coordinate delivery of technical workshops,
• Organize forums for settlement and environmental sector coordinators on environmentalism and diversity.
• Disseminate environmental education and promotional material related to climate change, greenhouse gases, and energy reductions
• Document research and provides periodic briefings,
• Produces manual and relevant project documentation,
• Develops communication framework to project partners and community at large,
• Assist in the development and implementation of outreach events: community clean-up days, community gardens, community celebrations and eco-activities, including set up, on-site coordination, volunteer management and tear down.
• Handle additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager and Executive Director.

Qualifications:
• College or University degree in Environmental Studies or other related fields,
• Minimum two years recent experience in environmental, community development or related field,
• Sound understanding of energy conservation and waste reduction initiatives and their applicability at the community level,
• Experience in environmental education and coordination of community participation programs.
• Experience in volunteer coordination and partnership development,
• Familiarity with visible ethno-specific/newcomers communities, organizations,
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills,
• Ability to work effectively as a member of the team and independently,
• Persuasive, confident and able to convince others,
• Creative self-starter, results oriented, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills,

Assets:
• Time flexibility. Availability to work on weekends and some evenings,
• Experience working with newcomers through a settlement or community organization,
• Knowledgeable about newcomers and immigrant communities in the Rexdale area and proficiency in another language other than English/French will be an asset.

Salary: Commensurate with experience. Three months of probation. Part-time Position
