Futures Group through its Healthy Policy Project (HPP) in Malawi builds local
capacity to design, implement and coordinate activities aimed at raising
awareness about population dynamics and development issues; increasing access
to family planning (FP) services; and strengthening governance for HIV, gender
and social welfare policies and programs
As part of its work HPP is supporting the population Unit in the Ministry of
Finance, Economic Planning and Development engage faith leaders in integrating
population and family planning issues into their routine activities. HPP
provided technical assistance to the faith leaders to develop an advocacy guide
on population and family planning issues.
HPP is seeking to hire a translator to translate the Religious Leaders advocacy
guide on population and family planning issues. The guide is in two
versions – one Christian and one Muslim – with about 90% of the content being
the same. Each is approximately 50 pages (A4) in length in MS Word.
Translate the Christian Religious Leaders Advocacy Guide from English to
Chichewa; provide a first draft and any additional assistance/revisions that
may be required after the translation is reviewed by HPP Malawian staff,

Approximately 90% of the content will be the same as the Christian Guide.,
Provide the Chichewa text in MS Word
Timeline – The translator will receive an MS Word version of the document in
early June (estimated), with an expected translation turn-around time f 2
weeks
Experience in translating technical/health documents from English to Chichewa
for professional publications, Experience working with international NGOs,
Knowledge of terms used in Chichewa for technical topics, including sustainable
development and family planning highly desirable
Interested consultants are requested to submit their translation rates (per word
or page basis preferred) along with a cover letter or CV outlining their
qualifications, availability as ell as a sample of recent translation work and
1-2 references
Selection will be based on the applicant’s proposed rate, availability,
qualifications and references. A short translation test may be
administered by shortlisted candidates
