FoodCycles 2011 Working Share Partners Program in Canada

Type: part-time barter/unpaid internship/training opportunity (details below)Organization: FoodCycles Community Soil and Food Projects Inc.
Location: Toronto, Ontario

A Working Share Partner is someone who works in exchange for a share of the farm’s produce. Working Share Partners play an important role in meeting the farm’s labour needs. They are folks who enjoy physical work and are interested in learning more about ecological farming.

The working share option operates as follows. In exchange for a regular share of 16 weeks of vegetables (the length of our harvest season), the working share partner must complete 3 work-share training days before receiving the first share in the harvest. (First harvest is the first week of July).

Once the harvest season begins, the working share partner joins the garden team 1 day a week for 16 weeks. They choose either Monday or Tuesday. Work hours are 7am-3:00pm with a one hour break for lunch from 12:30-1:30pm. This will be a hands on and vigorous training opportunity to learn more about ecological urban farming. You will need to be physically fit, punctual, reliable and to wear appropriate clothing for working outside (rain or shine).

Because Working Share Partners are so important to meeting the goals of the farm, participants must sign an agreement that they will be available across the season to fulfill their obligation. The consequence of breaking the Working Share Partner agreement (missing a scheduled work day twice without calling in) is that your share will be given to someone else.

If you are interested in participating, please send us a short email with your interest and resume. Please indicate your preference/availability during the week in the work share contract.
