Fiddle Foot Farm Organic & Biodynamic Farm Apprenticeship, CSA & Market Garden Job Vacancy in Mansfield, Ontario

We practice an holistic approach to farm management through the incorporation of Biodynamic practices. We consider the agricultural lands that we work to be a dynamic and living Farm Organism that can be increasingly sensitized to nature’s rhythms through the application of consciously prepared herbal preparations, carefully timed plantings and the power of positive intentions and human thought. Apprenticing at Fiddle Foot Farm is appropriate for curious minds seeking to develop a practical and more personal connection to the
natural world through daily interactions with soil, plants, animals and people.

As an apprentice, you will help grow vegetables on 4-5 acres for our 60-member CSA program and market garden. You will be involved in all aspects of running a small, organic farm including seeding, transplanting, watering, weeding, harvesting, distribution & marketing, season extension, construction of greenhouses and small buildings, collecting seed and preserving. Apprentices will be given a lot of responsibility, including managing our stand at the Orangeville and Creemore Farmer’s markets, greenhouse management and looking after our small herd of Milking Shorthorn cattle. Other learning opportunities include working with chickens and pigs. The 66-acre farm property includes access to the Bruce Trail and the nearby Boyne River.

We are looking for two Apprentices for the 2012 growing season. No previous gardening experience is required, although it will be considered an asset. All applicants must be willing and able to work long, satisfying hours in the outdoors, 5-6 days a week and be committed to working in a team environment. All applicants should have good communication skills, be independent workers, be physically fit and most of all have a strong desire to learn by doing.

The period of the Apprenticeship will run from April 1st to November 15th, however these dates are flexible. Accommodations and a stipend will be provided. Participation in CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) education days is included. Visit http://www.craftontario.ca for more information.

To apply, please send an email and attach a cover letter and resume. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
