Title: Project Manager, Community Development
Overview: This member of Evergreen’s program team is responsible for
the planning and implementation of projects focused on building
healthy communities and su
pporting the participation of diverse
communities in Evergreen’s mission. Based out of Evergreen’s Vancouver
office, this role will initially focus on expanding BC-based Community
Development programming by forging new partnerships with local and
regional organizations, and will grow to include supporting
Evergreen’s national community engagement strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
• Identify strategic partnerships and develop new projects that
strengthen public health, community engagement, and organizational
capacity in urban areas of BC;
• Build new and support existing community food growing, healthy
eating, and active transportation projects throughout the Lower
Mainland as part of Evergreen’s existing Seeding Healthy Communities
and Healthy Choices programs;
• Work with other project managers and coordinators to ensure diverse
and barrier-free participation in all of Evergreen’s programming, and
to develop strong cross-departmental programming;
• Support the roll-out of Evergreen’s national engagement programming,
and support Vancouver-based staff in incorporating engagement
strategies into local programming;
• Act as primary point-of-contact for internal and external project
stakeholders, including advisory bodies, community partners,
consultants, and funders;
• Track and manage direct costs associated with the project budget(s);
• Manage and support Program Coordinators, interns, and/or volunteers
assigned to the project(s);
• Develop and oversee implementation of an evaluation plan for projects;
• Work with Evergreen’s Marketing and Communications team to develop
and deliver an appropriate communications strategy for projects;
• Work with Evergreen Development Officers to raise additional funds
to support the project; and report to funders;
• Participate in presentations, publicity, and other outreach

Reporting Relationships:
• Supervised by: Regional Program Manager
• Supervises: interns, volunteers, and seasonal staff
Qualifications:
• Knowledge of community/public health approaches and best practices,
urban agriculture principles and techniques, and/or asset-based
community development, acquired through post-secondary degree/diploma,
training, or other equivalent experience
• Experience in community consultation, outreach, or community
organizing essential
• 2-4 years relevant work experience in the above disciplines – prior
non-profit work or teaching experience an asset
• Experience working with diverse and/or special-needs populations
including Aboriginal, seniors, youth, immigrants, and those living
with mental illness
• Public speaking, facilitation, and volunteer-engagement experience
strong assets
Working conditions:
• Work will take place both in office and outside throughout the year
• Includes working with vulnerable populations
• Requires some evening / weekend work
Terms of contract:
• 1 year contract, late-October 2014 through late-October 2015, with
possibility of extension/renewal
