Overview:

empowering Canadians to take a hands-on approach to their urban
environments, Evergreen is improving the health of our cities – now
and for the future.
Project Green Bloc is a group of neighbours in Riley Park/Vancouver,
aiming to lower their ecological footprint by 25% over 3 years through
community collaboration and science-based research. The project is
aligned with the Greenest City Action Plan working on individual
behavior change and collective projects.
The event assistant will work with CityWorks Project Manager to plan
and coordinate Project Green Bloc initiatives that will help residents
to reduce their ecological footprint during the summer of 2015. This
position involves research and documenting progress of Project Green
Bloc to date.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support CityWorks Project Manager in developing and leading events
that will help participants of Project Green Bloc to reduce their
ecological footprint through the summer of 2015. This will include
regular monthly events such as workshops on waste reduction,
increasing walkability and bike use, skill sharing sessions and
projects that support the community and the environment.
• Conduct outreach to recruit residents to participate in several
initiatives designed to reduce their ecological footprint.
• Document progress of Project Green Bloc capturing stories, events
and personal experiences of participants.
• Promote Project Green Bloc and contribute blog content and social
media platforms
• Represent Evergreen CityWorks at Project Green Bloc events
• Assist the Project Manager in creating a toolkit that will be
distributed to encourage similar action in other neighbourhoods in
Vancouver.

Reporting Relationships:
• Supervised by: Project Manager CityWorks
Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience organizing events and workshops essential.
• Knowledge of urban sustainability, pursuing a career-related focus
on the environment and familiar with the ecological footprint is an
asset.
• Experience working with community members desired
• Strong verbal and written communication skills essential
• Experience conducting research and ability to write up research
findings clearly required
• Ability to take initiative and engage in self-directed learning required
• Familiarity with social media tools an asset

• Less than 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic
year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next
academic year;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
Protection Act; and,
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant
provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Terms of contract:
This is a full time 37.5 hour/wk contract, May 25th – August 28th, at
$13.25/hour. Some evenings and weekends work is required.
