Overview: Evergreen is seeking a qualified, mature, responsible and
dynamic Camp Counsellor to work in the Green City Adventure Camp. We
are accredited members of the OCA with approximately 100 campers per
week.

Key Responsibilities:

Participant Safety
• Supervising a camper with special abilities on a daily basis;
• Being responsible for the personal care and supervision of his/her
camper from arrival to departure
• Ensuring proper safety and communication via two way radio,
especially when off-site;
• Maintaining all information received regarding his/her camper in
strict confidence;
• Monitor and maintain program spaces and materials;
• identify and document concerns with supervisor;
• Document incidents and accidents and report to Director

Program Planning and Pre-Camp Training
• Participate in pre-camp training in June, read and understand the
Staff Handbook;
• Working with the Camp Director to plan camp experience and supports
for your camper
• Participate in regular debrief, identifying challenges and solutions.

Program Delivery, Leadership and Guidance
• Ensuring the inclusion of this camper in all activities;
• Working in cooperation with the other counsellors and camp
management to ensure a positive camp experience;
• Facilitating interaction with other campers;
• Providing one on one activities, when appropriate;
• Being available for assignment in another area of camp should
his/her camper be absent from camp;
• Guide and encourage camper;
• Help monitor program participant during lunch and snack times;
• Having a verbal conversation with the parent/guardian, and in some
cases do a written report on the child’s activities on a daily basis;
• Handling concerns (in conjunction with the Camp Director) raised by
families regarding their child and his/her camp experience;
• Work with other staff to create dynamic cross group programs;
• Making contact with the family of the camper assigned to through
telephone call, prior to the camp session.

Teamwork
• Work as part of a team of counsellors which involves cooperation and
working as a team player;
• Participate in end of day reflection sessions, to give and receive
feedback and support;
• Maintain order and cleanliness of all program materials and shared
program spaces.

Reporting Relationships:
• Supervised by: Camp Director

Qualifications:
• Has experience working at a camp either as a counsellor or inclusion
counsellor;
• Has 1-2 years experience working with children with special needs;
• Complete a successful vulnerable sector police reference check;
• Emergency first aid training including CPR.

Working conditions:
• Able to endure rain, heat, humidity, and other weather conditions
• Working outdoors and being active with children
• Available for spring training
• Available between the hours of 8:00am and 6pm, Mon. to Fri
• Generally works 40 hours/week
• Available to help with special events for children leading up to the
start of camp

Physical requirements:
• Able to lift weight in excess of 20 pounds
• Proven physical fitness and endurance

Terms of contract:
• Mandatory unpaid Pre-Camp Trainingand Planning– June 20th, 23rd,
24th, 25th. (Completion bonus will be provided upon contract
completion)
• Camp Program Delivery – Monday to Friday from June 29th to August 28th 2015.
• Volunteer for special events for children leading up to the start of camp.

Must be legally able to work in Canada
