Summary: Europe Economics requires a highly able General Manager who will be responsible for the operational day-to-day running of the business, reporting to and implementing a strategy determined by the Management Board.
Indicative salary range: £50,000 – £80,000
About the company: Europe Economics is an economics consultancy specialising in economic regulation, competition policy, and the application of economics to public and business policy issues. We employ 30 permanent staff, all of whom are very well qualified and deliver precise and authoritative studies focused on clients’ requirements. Our clients include government departments, regulators, the European Commission and the European Parliament, companies both large and small, industry and professional representative bodies, law firms, and public affairs advisors.
About the role: The General Manager is answerable for the operational day-to-day running of the business, reporting to and implementing a strategy determined by the Management Board. He or she is responsible for preparing reports for the Management Board which meets each month. The General Manager is also directly responsible for the work of the administrative staff (currently one full-time and three part-time). With regard to the professional staff, the General Manager will help to ensure staff fulfil their responsibilities to be fully and profitably occupied, so that company resource is best directed according to priorities set by the Management Board.
Skills and characteristics required:
The qualities required for this role are:
• sound reason, fair judgment and a diligent approach to work;
basic understanding of company accounts (NB the company’s auditors as well as the finance manager are available for advice on any technical issues);
• proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and an understanding of how computer networks operate;
• ability to work within a team whose characteristics include high academic qualifications;
• understanding of how a commercial organisation functions;
• good references.
The successful candidate is likely to have a university degree and experience of working in an administrative and management role. Experience gained in another professional services firm could be an advantage.
