Founded in 2000,
EEON came into being in order to raise the profile and increase the
effectiveness of environmental education in Ontario. Through work with diverse
groups across the province, we developed a strategic plan for achieving this
goal in various settings: in our schools, communitie
s, businesses, and homes.
Our advocacy work has supported advancements in Ontario curriculum and Ministry
of Education policy, but we know there’s still a lot of work to be done. We are
currently working toward a comprehensive “environmental education report card”
that assesses the strengths and gaps in environmental education across the
province. As a small, nimble, and entirely volunteer charity, we are
continuously working on building capacity and increasing our profile.
Position: Community
Engagement Coordinator (Volunteer)
Environmental
Education Ontario (EEON) is seeking to hire two enthusiastic, motivated, and
creative Community Engagement Coordinators with experience in event planning,
membership engagement, and communications to plan and promote activities and
events for diverse audiences interested in environmental education. The
Community Engagement Coordinator will work under the direction of the EEON
Board and various committees. The person in this position will be expected to
work at home and at various locations where EEON meetings are held, primarily
in downtown Toronto.
Responsibilities
include:

Planning and
coordinating events and initiatives in coordination with partner organizations
·
Attending community
events and promoting EEON on behalf of the Board and its members
·
Facilitating new
partnerships and initiatives that promote EEON and have the potential to
generate funding
Meetings and Time
Commitment:
The Community
Engagement Coordinator will be asked to devote an average of 5-10 hours per
month on the tasks described above. In addition to special events, the
Community Engagement Coordinator will be expected to attend a number of Board
of Directors meetings, which take place on average every other month, or 6-8
times per year.

year
