Role
overview

Play a lead role in consulting and engaging young people, communities, service
providers and local authorities in the development and implementation of
approaches to youth livelihoods.
Help
to gather information about gender and inclusion issues, decision-making
processes and citizen engagement, and the resilience issues related to youth
livelihoods to help make sure our interventions address these key issues in
youth livelihoods.
Provide
advice on the types of approaches the District and VSO should take.
Implement
any new and improved approaches identified based on context analysis and
opportunities, based on matching youth specific skills and interests with the
identified activities.
Ensure
progress and learning is well documented including its impact on issues of
social inclusion and gender, citizen engagement and resilience.
Use
learning from the project to inform future work on Empowered Youth for
Employment and Enterprise by VSO.
Skills,
qualifications and experience required
Essential criteria:
  • A
    degree in Agriculture and Veterinary medicine, Agribusiness and any
    related subject.
  • Experience
    of working with young people in an area of livelihoods development.
  • Some
    understanding of social inclusion and gender issues, engagement of
    stakeholders in decision-making and holding decision-makers to account,
    and the resilience of people and systems in relation to youth livelihoods.
  • Some
    experience of investigating social inclusion and gender issues, engagement
    of stakeholders in decision-making and holding decision-makers to account,
    and the resilience of people and systems in relation to youth livelihoods.
  • Some
    understanding of and a commitment to the rights based approach to
    development.
  • Skills
    for community mobilisation
  • Technical
    knowledge to develop communication materials
  • Ability
    to work with district officials
  • Ability
    to train, motivate and lead others.
Desirable
Criteria:
  • Social
    research background.
  • Experience
    of working with children with disabilities and other vulnerable children.
Allowance
and accommodation
All
volunteers have an allowance paid in local currency. The allowance meets
reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money
home.
VSO
works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means
accommodation varies and will be basic.
