Uganda, like much of
Africa, has seen the scourge of AIDS decimate its adult population, leaving
countless orphans in its wake. ELI INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS partners with
several orphanages in the area of Iganga, a large town, not far from Lake
Victoria and the source of the Nile. It is a b
eautiful area, with friendly
people, and with crushing issues. For those who have never visited Uganda, it may
come as a surprise to see the fertile countryside. It is a country with great
agricultural potential. Lack of infrastructure and bad policy decisions have
kept the country from realizing its potential.
As a volunteer in an
orphanage you will teach, play games, and mentor great kids who have been dealt
a difficult hand. You may also have the opportunity to monitor ELI’s donations,
identifying needs and helping to fill them.
Participants must be
at least 18 years old or older at the time of their program.
