The Job:


An energy efficiency consultant is looking for a summer support worker
to help develop the physical infrastructure for an Eco/environmental
bed and breakfast facility on a 35 acre property 5 min. north of
Smiths Falls ON. The job requirements breakdown is as follows:
• Cooking duties (30% total duties): preparing healthy meals for
co-worker(s) and volunteer labourers
• Supervising volunteer labourers (10%): organize and supervise jobs
for volunteer worker(s)
• Organic farm development (30%): creating raised beds, chicken coop,
fencing, planting, watering, weeding
• Light construction labour (30%): simple jobs (painting, grounds
maintenance) to complex (solar hot water, PV system, advanced
building)

Flexible work hours approximately 30- 35 hrs per week.

Full access to house, property and ammenities (canoe, bike, pond,
woodshop). On-site co-worker (male) to answer questions plus weekly
one-on-one check-ins with owner (sustainability-energy efficiency
expert) which provides opportunities for questions, feedback and
directed learning.

Remuneration:

$12/hr plus private room and board

Qualifications:
• Accustomed to the mental and physical demands of a labourer, working
and living rurally.
• Suits mature (upper year) student looking for hands-on, practical
experience in sustainable living skills.
• Must have at least one significant experience working as a member of
a team, adapting to changing conditions under challenging
circumstances (i.e. low-budget travel, long-term project, sustained
physical labour, working with difficult people, etc.).
• Any academic discipline is suitable as long as long as there is a
willingness to work hard and get along.
