EcoKids Program Coordinator – Application Deadline Dec. 9th 2014, 5 pm
Earth Day Canada (EDC), a national environmental charity founded in
1990, provides Canadians with the practical knowledge and tools they
need to help the environment through its six year-round programs and
many initiatives. Last year,
EDC was chosen as Canada’s “Outstanding
Non-profit Organization” by the Canadian Network for Environmental
Education and Communication. In 2004, Earth Day Canada was recognized
as the top environmental education organization in North America for
its innovative programs and educational resources, by the
Washington-based North American Association for Environmental
Education.
EcoKids is an environmental action program that provides
curriculum-linked materials and resources to educators and inspires
young Canadians from ages 7 to 12 with topical environmental
information, interactive games and hands-on activities. At the heart
of our program is our multi-award-winning EcoKids web site
(ecokids.ca), which is an interactive environmental web site
for
children, their families, and educators in Canada and around the
world.
The EcoKids Program Coordinator works closely with the Program Manager
to develop environmental education resources, represent the program to
participants, and communicate to stakeholders. This is a one-year
contract position from January-December 2015, with the possibility of
renewal.
Responsibilities
• Assist with research, writing, design and production of EcoKids
material (print and electronic)
• Coordinate fulfillment and distribution of EcoKids print materials
• Create and distribute bi-monthly email newsletters
• Coordinate with communications department to distribute media
releases and alerts for various program events and initiatives
• Represent EcoKids by leading workshops and presentations at
educational conferences and events
• Coordinate EcoKids presence at Earth Day events
• Provide program participants with ongoing program support via phone and email
• Fulfill public requests for information and assistance in a timely manner
• Assist in the annual evaluation of the program
• Assist with maintaining and updating all material on the EcoKids website
• Coordinate all events relating to the annual EcoKids Earth Day campaign
• Manage registration processes for all related events
• Assist with program development including expanding markets for EcoKids
Qualifications
• Preference will be given to candidates with a teaching degree
• Degree in Environmental Studies, Education or a related discipline
• Preference will be given to applicants who are fluent in both
English and French
• Solid communications background with an interest in the environment
and education
• Strong written and verbal communications skills and interpersonal skills
• Minimum of two years’ experience in education and/or environment or
a related field preferred
• Experience in environmental education preferred
• Experience with and knowledge of one or more provincial elementary
school curriculum
• Knowledge of MS Office
• Demonstrated creativity and initiative
• Ability to determine priorities, adhere to deadlines, and multi-task
• Excellent time-management skills and detail oriented
• Strong team player
• Ability to excel in a fast paced environment
