Dogwood Initiative is a Victoria based non-profit organization that works to inspire British Columbians to take back decision-making power over the air, land and water they depend on. Our work empowers ordinary people to safeguard their communities for their children and their children’s children. We are currently seeking a Development Manager to play an important leadership role on our growing staff team.
The Development Manager works closely with the Operations Director, Executive Director, and other staff to design, implement and maintain Dogwood Initiative’s fund development and donor strategies in-line with our organizational objectives and budget targets. Reporting to the Operations Director, the Development Manager works independently and co-operatively in a spirit of team work, while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to the changing circumstances and priorities of a small, dynamic organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Maintain existing sources of funding while researching and developing new opportunities from foundations, corporations, governments, community partners and individuals
• Manage all donor relations and communications
• Create and manage all funding proposals, budgets and reports to funders
• Manage and develop direct mail, phone telemarketing, online/email and face to face fundraising programs, increasing individual donations to annual targets
• Together with the Operations Director and Executive Director, cultivate personal relationships with major donors, current and prospective
• Plan and execute special events related to fundraising initiatives
• Collaborate with Communications staff to develop campaign messaging and strategy
Qualifications and Experience:
• Excellent English language written and verbal communications skills
• University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must be extremely well organized, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, and work independently and as part of a team
• Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office applications and fundraising databases
• Previous fundraising experience with a progressive organization in a similar setting including grant writing and reporting, relationship building with major donors, direct mail and event management
• Experience in journalism, public relations or a related communications field an asset
• Understanding of and a passion for land reform, aboriginal and/or environmental issues in British Columbia are strong assets
• Membership in AFP an advantage
