TVO has embarked on an exciting, new
strategic direction with an ambitious five year vision that defines
TVO as a successful 21st century
digital media organization.
This plan comprises two main pillars
of delivery: 
Digital Education; inside the
classroom, outside the classroom and abroad.
Current Affairs & Documentaries;
leveraging TVO’s brand of Ontario perspective in-depth, current affairs to
strengthen reach and impact.
For over four decades, TVO has
empowered Ontarians through educational media. TVO is an innovative alternative
to commercial broadcasters. It has evolved from a single TV station to a fully
digital media organization for the 21st century. TVO reaches more people in
more ways than ever before with quality content that “makes you think.”
TVO builds citizen engagement –
through programs like The Agenda with Steve Paikin that provide in-depth
discussion on-air, on-line, on mobile and in communities across Ontario. TVO
helps people understand the world – through factual and documentary programming
that tells Ontario’s stories and provides every citizen a window on the world.
THE POSITION
TVO is seeking a dynamic Director,
Philanthropy and Sponsorship who will be responsible for developing,
implementing and driving TVO’s philanthropy and sponsorship activities. The
successful candidate will grow and expand giving opportunities across all
potential channels, prospects and existing individual donors, foundations and
corporations. The position will also provide organizational leadership in the
area of philanthropy acting as staff expert and support to the CEO, the
Executive Leadership team, and the Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Revenue Generation
  • Secure
    new gifts through the continued development and execution of the
    Leadership Giving program for individual major donors
  • Operationalize
    a Legacy Giving program and successfully market it to existing TVO donors
  • Grow
    and refine the Annual Giving and Direct Response programs including the
    strategic growth of the monthly giving program
  • Grow
    online giving aligned with the launch of a new tvo.org; and
  • Enhance
    alignment between new strategic directions in programming and philanthropy
    and the case for support
  • Operationalize
    a new approach to sponsorship sales and marketing with internal and
    external partners
Strategy and Operations 
  • Develop,
    implement, analyze, monitor and report on measured results for the
    organization’s philanthropy and sponsorship strategies and business plans
  • Analyze
    trends, identify opportunities and challenges, and develop strategies to
    ensure goals in each revenue channel are met
  • Develop
    and manage creative and effective stewardship and recognition programs for
    all supporters
  • Develop
    and grow Leadership Giving donor base. Establish and manage research and
    donor prospecting for new donors. Oversee the moves management systems in
    support of this activity
  • Develop
    and maintain a prospect management and system for Leadership and Planned
    Giving, including donor tracking, recognition and stewardship
  • Work
    closely with the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors to develop
    strategic Leadership Giving priorities as appropriate. Develop and manage
    the Board of Director’s fundraising capacity to make “asks” of individuals
  • Plan,
    develop and implement the cultivation and solicitation of major and
    planned gifts in collaboration with senior volunteers, the Board of
    Directors and the CEO. The director is expected to maintain his/her own
    pipeline of 25-50 prospects
  • Coordinate
    the Annual Giving and Direct Response portfolio of revenue channels 
Administration 
  • Oversee
    the writing of effective grant proposals and stewardship reports to
    corporate and foundation funders
  • Prepare
    budget and status reports as appropriate
  • Prepare
    and deliver speeches and presentations to key prospects, stakeholders and
    the Board of Directors
  • Create
    strategies to market to all donor groups, including the development of all
    promotional materials in collaboration with TVO Marketing and Corporate
    Communications teams and external agencies
  • Develop
    innovative recognition opportunities, materials and events for community
    and donor stewardship Ensure all of TVO’s fundraising practices adhere to
    CRA guidelines
  • Abide
    by the ethical standards expected by membership in national and
    international fundraising associations 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University
    undergraduate degree required; post-graduate designation in business or
    related field would be an asset
  • CFRE
    designation in good standing
  • Membership
    and adherence to ethical codes in one or more of the following: AFP, AHP,
    CAGP
  • 8-10
    years of  diversified successful fundraising experience with
    corporate, major gifts donors and solicitation, preferably with a
    nonprofit organization
  • Working
    knowledge of charitable gift planning
  • Results
    oriented, with a proven track record of delivering on goals, and achieving
    revenue targets
  • Proven
    success in asking for and closing major gifts, as well as building and
    maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as
    individual donors, foundations and corporations
  • Demonstrated
    ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new prospects
  • Experience
    working with senior level executives in a corporate or not for profit
    environment
  • Experience
    leading and managing multi disciplinary teams
  • High
    energy, positive, “can-do” attitude paired with flexibility, demonstration
    of a high degree of initiative, and attention to detail
  • Strong
    presentation and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability
    to write clearly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated
    ability to think strategically coupled with directly related strategy
    development experience
  • Thorough
    understanding of all components of a diversified and fully integrated
    fundraising function in a multi-level organization
  • Knowledge
    of Ontario’s philanthropic community and network of social and
    professional relationships
  • Good
    computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledge
    of relational donor data base applications
  • Demonstrated
    use of creative digital media strategies to maximize online fundraising
    results
  • Superior
    and operational planning skills and the ability to deploy resources
    effectively
  • Strong
    financial, budget and vendor management ability
