National Museums Scotland is one of the UK’s leading museum services. It has a national and international reach and operates five museum sites.
A major redevelopment and modernisation programme across our organisation is nearing completion, including a £50 million redevelopment of the National Museum of Scotland. This investment has created new displays, enhanced learning and public facilities and provides high quality visitor experiences. A further £10 million of investment in new displays is being planned for this site.
As Director of Public Programmes, you will play a key role within our management team. You will provide creative leadership and direction for public programmes and services across our sites and virtual channels.
Responsibilities will include:
• Leading the planning and delivery of public programmes and exhibitions to attract and inspire new and existing audiences and engage users with the national collections
• Management and leadership of the Public Programmes function (encompassing Learning & Programmes, Information Services, Digital Media and Exhibitions)
• Delivering our objectives around priorities relating to lifelong learning, public engagement and widening audiences
• Forging and managing strategic partnerships nationally and internationally with key external stakeholders
Degree qualified with a demonstrable track record of contributing to the corporate management of a large and complex organisation, you will have proven experience of a strategic approach to delivering public programmes and services. Strategic vision and a strong commitment to public engagement combined with excellent leadership skills will be critical to succeed in this role.
