Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has sued his rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo for N1.5 billion Naira.
In an initial lawsuit, D’banj demanded Seyitan Babatayo’s N100 million Naira for “defamation of character” after she accused him of rape and asked her lawyers to apologise.
Now, after all that has happened in recent times, D’banj has asked Ms Babatayo, through his counsel, Mike Ozekhome Chambers, to pay N1.5bn Naira.
N1 billion in damages was requested “over the untold embarrassment, derision, public ridicule, odium, obloguy, marital disharmony, mental agony and psychological trauma which the Defendants’ tweets and publication have caused the claimant.”
N500 million was demanded as “aggravated, puniitive, and exemplary damages.”
The suit also demanded that Seyitan writes D’banj “a letter of unreserved apology for the offensive tweets and posts”.
D’banj’s lawyers also prayed the court to grant “an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from further publishing, tweeting or posting offesnive libelous statements.”
Recall that a week ago, Seyitan released a statement detailing the timeline of her case with D’banj. She had initially posted a tweet denying having been arrested on orders from D’banj. She said she wanted to put it all behind her now.
She said she was arrested and held for 24 hours after she was released to D’banj ‘s team who took her to an undisclosed spot, denied her access to her family and lawyers, threatened her, took control of her social media account, and pressured her to retract her allegation.
On Thursday, July 2, activist Segun “Segalink” Awosanya shared a thread on Twitter where he said Seyitan was not detained by D’banj’s team as claimed. However, today, he did a turnaround and stated that Seyitan didn’t lie and that she was indeed detained but not “kidnapped” by D’banj’s team as the “e-femists” claimed.
