The Position:
CSIRO’s Land and Water Flagship is seeking a high-achieving scientist in the
area of environmental fluid dynamics and contaminant hydrogeology focused on
multiphase processes in groundwater environments. The role is to create new
understanding of the migration of multiphase fluids in vadose zones and
groundwater environments and their subsequent fate via advanced theoretical and
mathematical modelling. A particular emphasis is predicting the fate and
behaviour of non-aqueous phase liquid
contaminants such as petroleum products
and organic solvents in aquifers.
Your duties will include:
- Working
effectively within an active multidisciplinary research team to
successfully deliver science and industry outcomes on multiphase fluid
processes in aquifer and reservoir systems. - Design,
plan and implement quantitative modelling and research to advance
knowledge of multiphase fluid and reactive processes in porous and
structured media. - Developing
innovative concepts, theories, tools and techniques that allow advances in
the modelling of multiphase processes and achievement of project objectives.

To be successful in this
position you will need:
- A PhD
with three or more years relevant research experience in the
area of environmental engineering, computational fluid dynamics, soil
science, contaminant hydrogeology, or equivalent areas. - Demonstrated
understanding of multiphase processes associated with multi-component
non-aqueous phase liquids in subsurface environments, and evidence of
research initiative in this area. - Demonstrated
experience in quantitative modelling of fluid dynamics, fluid flows in
porous media and/or multiphase flow dynamics and partitioning applicable
to contaminants in the subsurface.
