We are a specialty metals manufacturer in Brampton, with a job opening for the following position:Lab Technician – 18 Month Contract Position
Reporting to the Assay Lab Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of instrumentation and analysis in an assay laboratory. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter capable of working in a team environment who possesses a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy. This is an entry level 18 month contract position.
Job Responsibilities:
• Preparing and weighing metal samples for fire assay; ensuring results are recorded accurately
• Accurately recording data on trial and final assay reports
• Performs routine instrumentation analysis including atomic absorption, auto-titration, ICP
• Following safe work practices and procedures including the safe handling of acids
• Performs other job related duties as required
Job Qualifications:
• University degree in Chemistry
• Minimum 6 months experience in an qualitative chemistry lab; knowledge of atomic absorption or ICP a definite asset
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Possess a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; strong numeracy skills
• Good manual dexterity; capable of using lab tools & equipment such as a high precision microbalance scale, tweezers, scissors
• Good communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Excellent time management skills
• Good computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Able to work independently and work efficiently as a part of a team
• Self-motivated and high level of energy
• Must be comfortable wearing Personal Protective Equipment on a continual basis
• Ability to work overtime as required
• Candidate should be at ease with routine / repetitive work
