The Cinema Politica Network is a media arts, non-profit network of
community and campus locals that screen independent political film and
video by Canadian and international artists throughout Canada and
abroad.

Cinema Politica is seeking to hire a Communications Assistant who will
work closely with the CP Executive Director to assist with outreach
and communications, media relations, writing and basic graphic design.
We are interested in applicants who have a specific interest in
documentary, film, media and/or communications. This position is an
ideal opportunity for a recent graduate of an applicable degree or
diploma programme who is interested in experience in a small but
dedicated non-profit media arts organization with a commitment to
creativity, activism and social justice.

This is a part-time contract position with a possibility of renewal.
Remuneration is commensurate to experience and qualifications. The
selected candidate will start in January 2015 at our Montreal (Quebec)

Responsibilities

CP Website
• Updating and maintaining the CP website and individual pages
• Writing and publishing CP blog posts and other creative content such
as trailers and videos
• Creating and updating CP local pages
• Assisting CP Locals with website queries
• Creating and updating film and artist pages, as well as individual
sections of the website
• Tracking, gathering and reporting statistics for CP website and e-newsletter

Design & Layout
• Creating and updating CP press and fundraising packages and related
documentation
• Designing and laying out CP Newsletters
• Designing posters, flyers and other promotional materials

Social Media
• Creating and maintaining social media channels and platforms
• Creating, managing and promoting Facebook events, pages and groups
• Regularly updating Tumblr, Flickr, Vimeo and Youtube accounts

Media Relations
• Managing press lists and media contacts
• Assisting with the creation and dissemination of press releases
• Disseminating CP communiqués by phone, email and social media
• Managing media requests
• Organizing and maintaining CP’s media archives
• Acting as a media liaison between media outlets, CP locals and the main
office

Outreach
• Connecting and liaising with community and media arts partners and
organizations
• Maintaining and updating community partner database

General
• Organize and maintain communications database as well as contact
lists of CP creative contractors, such as photographers,
videographers, translators and writers
• Assist the Executive Director of CP with day-to-day
communications-related tasks and campaigns
• Assist with coordination of communication aspects and on-site
execution of various events
• Work closely with the CP team to complete time-sensitive tasks

Qualifications
• A degree in Media and/or Communication Studies, Graphic Design,
Public relations, or relevant work/volunteer experience
• Excellent language skills in both English and French
• Excellent writing and editing skills and knowledge of different
writing styles for diversity of platforms
• Strong knowledge of the Internet and Social Media platforms
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop,
Illustrator, InDesign).
• Creativity
• Strong project management and organizational skills and a talent for
multi-tasking
• Familiarity with Cinema Politica and its activities
• Good understanding of the non-profit and media arts sectors
• Ability to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to work well individually and in a collaborative environment

Assets
• Interest and knowledge in documentary, and social justice issues and activism
• Good knowledge of activist networks and community organizations
• Experience with video production, publishing or digital photography
• Adaptable to a flexible work schedule
