The Kids’ CBC team
is a group of passionate individuals who want to make a difference in the lives
of Canadian families. We are energetic, committed and extremely innovative both
on the creative and business sides of kids content. We love our work and are
well respected world-wide.
As Executive in
Charge of Production for Kids’ CBC, you will oversee the development,
production and daily management of Childrens programs, working with independent
producers on commissioned programming.
Working in tandem
with the Childrens Executive Team, you will also act as CBC’s creative voice on
series produced for CBC Childrens, giving notes on cuts, accepting deliverables
and helping manage everything from the pre-production to post-production stage.
Analyze creative
components of production for CBC Childrens and Youth programming. Recommend
specific creative alternatives to producers. Approve scripts and design
elements as per CBC contracts. Evaluate program proposals from the independent
sector. Recommend appropriate network response. Develop comprehensive
program strategies for continuing series, including creative focus, budget
parameters and personnel.
As a key member of
the Childrens Executive Team, you will contribute to the overall excellence of
CBC Childrens and its output.
Extensive Knowledge required in:
•Television
Production, in particular script development as well as production processes
for a variety of formats, e.g. animation and live action for both preschool and
school- aged audiences
•Children’s cognitive development, emotional and social behavior
•Trends in the children’s television industry
•Potential producing partners and creative talent such as directors and writers
•Program budgeting and financial strategies
•Preschoolers: how they engage, develop, interact, etc…
•Childrens Programming in Canada and around the world
•Production and post-production techniques
•Promotions of kids content
•Management of creative people
•Canadian children production companies, their employees and histories; past
and current Canadian television series, broadcast industry “politics” such as
CRTC guidelines and broadcast licenses; some familiarity with funding issues
such as tax credits, etc… across Canada
•Current and future platforms used to reach kids
•High level of creativity – able to provide imaginative and effective
suggestions and input on scripts, campaigns and promotions. Instinct,
intuition, knowledge and innovation are required in decision-making in these
areas
•Ability to represent the CBC in a courteous and informed fashion. Able
to communicate effectively and diplomatically with a very wide range of
individuals such as independent producers, writers, directors, and occasionally
the press and public
•Ability to simultaneously manage a large number of projects
•Ability to be positive in an ever changing environment and enjoy your work!
Creativity required in:
•Analyzing program
proposals, articulate merit and make recommendations
•Identifying and evaluating specific program concerns, establishing definitive
goals and strategies for productions
•Interpersonal communication with producers, directors and writers.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
•Knowledge in
Interactive Content
•A passion and desire to build an experience for children and youth that goes
beyond the duration of the television program
•Must possess a high level of communication skills in particular listening,
negotiating with a range of individuals from producers, administration and
senior management. A strong ability to articulate personal vision
on programs
•Must be able to handle multiple priorities and respond to several urgent
demands in a short space of time. Must be able to exercise judgement and
work independently
•Travel and out of the office reading.
