Term: 6 month part-time contract over the fall and spring school term. Hours are flexible and to be arranged in collaboration with Executive Director and public school representatives to fit program directives (estimated 45 hours per month).

Remuneration: $5,000 (divided into monthly payments)
Starting date: September 12th, 2011

The Capital Region Good Food Society is a regional non-profit enterprise promoting good nutrition and health. We provide innovative healthy food education through our education program; and regular access to high quality local/regional sustainability fruits and vegetables though the Good Food Box program.

The successful candidate will develop and implement education workshops for our new Growing Good Eating school based education program. The candidate will work with the Executive Director and a selected primary school to carry out the program. Workshops will be integrated into the regular curriculum of 9 primary classrooms covering grades 1 to 4 between September and March of the 2011/2012 school year. Age appropriate workshops will educate children and parents on fresh food appreciation, food skills, comparative tastings, healthy sustainable food systems, and may include field trips to local farms.

Requirements:
• Excellent understanding of the environmental, cultural, and nutritional aspects of sustainable food systems, demonstrated by a relevant university or college degree or equivalent experience.
• Passionate and creative about healthy, seasonal, family-friendly promotion of fruits and veggies.
• Engaging teaching manner with groups of children and families.
• Proven success building and maintaining working relationships.
• Proven food preparation skills focused on creativity, health, and taste.
• Ability to work independently and effectively with full accountability.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Good team player, flexible work style, and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Employment conditional on vulnerable-sector criminal record check.
