The CYD Coordinator will be responsible for planning and logistics for the delegation, coordinating a team of 20 young people from across Canada. This will involve tasks such as booking accommodation in Durban, tracking finances, fundraising, coordinating travel, planning and coordinating trainings for the delegation as well as liaising with other environmental and youth organizations from around the globe. The CYD coordinator will also help to liaise with the United Nations secretariat, the Canadian delegation and other governmental and civil society bodies.
In addition to logistics, the coordinator will work with other CYCC staff and volunteers as well as the CYD on strategy, actions and campaigns, working to integrate the CYD into the 2011 campaigns and plans of the CYCC.
Position details:
• 3 month contract (June-September) with potential for extension dependent on funding
• $12.50/hour
• 30 hours per week
• The coordinator is expected to fundraise to extend the position until COP17
Position Requirements
• Experience with environmental and climate organizing (other social justice organizing)
• Ability to work in both French and English
• Ability to manage logistics for a group of 20 youth
• Proven fundraising experience
• Understanding of climate change, climate justice and international climate negotiations
• Experience in group and meeting facilitation and consensus decision making
Assets
• Other language ability
• Understanding of and experience working within an anti-oppression framework
• Previous experience with the CYCC
• Previous experience with the United Nations or other international bodies
• Experience organizing campaigns and creative actions
• Experience with independent and mainstream media
