Wage: $18.00/hour
The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition (CYCC) National Director is
responsible for the effective operations of the coalition as well as
supporting the development and growth of CYCC projects. This person
will be the key contact person for coalition members; will clarify and
facilitate operations and decision-making of the coalition; and will
fundraise for Coalition activities, projects and campaigns.
The National Director represents the CYCC in leading campaigns,
dealing with other organizations, individuals, and the general public.
The National Director will work to support the growing Fossil Free
Canada divestment movement on campuses, as well as work on key CYCC
projects including PowerShift and the Canadian Youth Delegation. The
new Director will also help to design and implement a restructuring
process for the CYCC.
The director reports to the CYCC Council and is responsible for the
effective management of the CYCC in accordance with its policies and
reflective of a youth driven coalition.
About the CYCC
The Canadian Youth Climate Coalition is a united front of youth from
across Canada tackling the biggest challenge of our generation, the
climate crisis. The CYCC works on a range of projects and campaigns,
the two immediate priorities being the Fossil Free Canada divestment
campaigns and the Canadian Youth Delegation. We strive to work with a
broad constituency of youth: students, young workers, frontline
community youth and intergenerational allies to build a movement for
climate justice.
Key Responsibilities: (See also for more details: Detailed Responsibilities)
Administration & Financial Management
• Management of the day to day operation of the CYCC
• Management of the CYCC project budgets and organizational finances.
Campaign Coordination
• Coordination of national CYCC campaigns and projects, including but
not limited to, Fossil Free Canada divestment campaign, Canadian Youth
Delegation and PowerShift.
Organizational Leadership
• Increasing organizational capacity by developing local volunteer
organizers across Canada.
• Working with local and national leaders to develop projects that
meet the goals of the CYCC.
• Working with the CYCC Council and other stakeholders to maintain
participatory decision making within the organization.
Desired Qualifications
• Passion for creating a sustainable future based on social, climate
and environmental justice
• Bilingual communications skills (spoken and written French/English –
work is currently mostly in English)
• Understanding of and experience with the Canadian climate movement
• Experience with CYCC related projects like PowerShift and Divestment
• Experience with international climate work
• Experience working with front-line and impacted communities
• Strong knowledge and understanding of climate change, climate
justice and anti-oppression principles
• Organizational development and management experience
• Community outreach and grassroots organizing experience
• Facilitation and training experience
• Non-violent direct action coordination, training and participation
• Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised
• Self-motivated with an ability to work independently
• Strong ability to multi-task
Assets
• Basic graphic design skills
• Understanding of Nation Builder and other basic digital communications tools
• Social media skills and experience
• Experience working with traditional and non-traditional media
• Strong writing skills
• Campus organizing experience
