management team! The Policy and Research Manager is responsible for the policy
and research agenda of the organization, identifying relevant issues and
trends, conducting research, providing analysis, developing policy and advocacy
positions and engaging with key stakeholders to advance animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and evaluate a fully
integrated policy and research strategy that includes all key result areas
for animal welfare; - Using qualitative and quantitative methods,
conduct written research concerning public policy issues related to animal
welfare, sheltering and the operation of animal welfare organizations; - Develop options and recommendations on a range
of policy issues including companion animals, farm animals, animals in
research, wildlife, multiple levels of legislation and industry specific
issues; - Produce reports including the State of Animal
Welfare, Annual Report Cards and Industry Standards and Best Practices. - Consult with CFHS members, field experts, and
government officials to inform policy directions; - Work with and provide staff support to
committees and task forces, as well as represent CFHS on external
committees and councils; - Provide timely information on policy and
legislative issues to CFHS staff and members; - Contribute to CFHS publications and materials
such as the website, social media, annual report and newsletters;
Education
- University degree in a related field including
animal welfare, public policy/administration, conservation (Master’s
degree preferred), plus 3 years work experience in a management or
research position OR equivalent level of progressive related work
experience in lieu of post secondary education.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of policy research and
analysis; - Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative
research methods with excellent literature search and cross-jurisdictional
scan skills; - Able to work with multiple stakeholders,
facilitate change and find win/win solutions; - Experience managing integrated programs with
internal and external audiences; - Excellent written and verbal communications
skills, with the ability to write compelling reports/copy for different
audiences; - Knowledge of animal welfare in Canada and
experience in animal sheltering; - Able to work autonomously, as well as part of
a team, in a flexible, fast-paced environment; - High degree of professionalism with the
ability to prioritize to meet required deadlines; - English is essential; bilingual
(English/French) an asset. - Understanding of and commitment to principles
and values espoused by Canadian Federation of Humane Societies.
This is a full time, salaried position with
