The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) is a non-profit, membership-based
organization which is working to establish a conservation corridor
along the Niagara Escarpment and provide environmentally responsible
public access to it via the Bruce Trail.

The BTC is seeking three enthusiastic, dynamic individuals to join our
team as Public Outreach Assistants for the summer of 2015 to implement
an on-the-Trail public outreach program, encouraging awareness of the
Bruce Trail and support for the BTC among trail users and
conservation-minded individuals and families. One position will also
involve administrative support at the BTC head office.

Pending funding, there will be three positions available:

1) Public Outreach Assistant – Field & Office (Hamilton): Temporary,
Full-time (outlined here in a separate posting)
2) Public Outreach Assistant – Field (Niagara Region): Temporary,
Part-time (outlined in a separate posting)
3) Public Outreach Assistant – Field (Bruce Peninsula): Temporary,
Part-time (outlined here)

Term: July 6 – Sept 7, 2015

Key Responsibilities:
• Conducting outreach at a BTC booth at multiple trailhead and
community locations along the Bruce Trail in the Bruce Peninsula
region.
• Raising awareness of and support for the BTC through face-to-face
conversations with Bruce Trail users and distribution of materials.
• Selling memberships and products; Maintaining accurate sales and
attendance records.
• Working independently at BTC booths. Regularly connecting with BTC
head office via phone and email.
• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:
• Level of Education: Some College/Tech Training or University
• Experience in sales, customer service, marketing, fundraising,
public speaking and/or communications
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to interact
and deal effectively with a wide range of individuals
• Proven ability to maintain a high level of customer service and
consistently convey a pleasant and professional manner in person, on
the phone, and by email
• Experience working independently with minimal supervision. An
effective self-motivator.
• Excellent attention to detail, good judgement and problem-solving skills
• Experience in cash handling and reconciliation
• Physical ability and willingness to lift, move and set up 10′ x 10′
canopy and display materials
• Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to reliable vehicle (with
capacity to transport bulky materials)
• Willingness and ability to work weekends, including long weekends
• Familiarity with the Bruce Trail will be considered an asset

Eligibility:
• Applicants must be residents in or near the Bruce Peninsula (e.g.
Tobermory, Lion’s Head, Wiarton). Must be able to travel directly to
and from trailhead/event locations along the Bruce Trail in the area.

Commitment:
• 16-24 hours per week for 9 weeks starting week of July 6, 2015
• Working days are Saturday & Sunday, and long weekend Mondays.

Salary: $14.00 / hr
