Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research has been established at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to conduct fundamental research on metabolism. The center
which consists of five scientific sections and a number of international research alliances was established through a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The current position is in the section for Integrative Physiology headed by Scientific Director Juleen Zierath in the group for Environmental Epigenetics.

Job description
The post entails research in the field of human metabolic diseases including Type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and ageing and how lifestyle factors including diet and exercise can promote health benefits using technologies from the fields of molecular biology, physiology and epigenetics. A candidate with good international experience in any of the areas mentioned above will be strongly preferred.
The associate professor´s duties will primarily consist of:
• research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication
• research-based teaching with associated examination duties
• research leadership as well as educational guidance and supervision of assistant professors
• professional assessment work
Qualifications – selection criteria
Applicants must have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related science, and qualification within one, preferably more, of the following scientific areas:
• A proven track record in the field of Epigenetics and, more particularly, DNA methylation
• A strong track record in Metabolism and Insulin action, with expertise in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue biology
• Track record for successful grant application as a principal investigator
• Experience in designing and studying human cohorts, particularly with exercise training as a model
• Experience in convening and delivering University courses
• Research qualifications such as an assistant professor or equivalent within the subject area(s)
• Teaching qualifications such as an assistant professor or equivalent within the subject area(s)*
*If the applicant has no previous teaching experience through employment as an assistant professor or has not achieved corresponding teaching experience, the appointment will be probationary for 1½ years.
The associate professor is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.
Terms of employment
The terms will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant professional organization. The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
