The Akilah Institute
for Women is seeking an exceptional candidate with extensive experience in
microfinance and financial modeling to complete extensive due diligence on a
proposed student loan fund structure and complete detailed modeling of fund.
The project period is 5 weeks, including a trip to Kigali, Rwanda. This new
loan fund will be financed by a group of individual donors in the US, and
administered by Acacia Accounting, a Rwandan business. Only enrolled students
at the Akilah Institute for Women will be permitted to apply for loans.


The consultant will
complete in-depth analysis and develop financial projections in order to
determine the feasibility of this concept. Additional work may be available
pending results of initial study and financial model.

Responsibilities:

  • Travel
    to Rwanda for a minimum of two (2) weeks to meet with Akilah Institute and
    Acacia Accounting management
  • Complete
    thorough assessment of the Akilah financial model and proposed loan
    structure and terms, incorporating lessons learned from previous loan
    partnerships (successes and challenges)
  • Develop
    detailed financial model for proposed loan fund including interest rates,
    payback periods, timelines
  • Research
    and define legal requirements of proposed loan structure and recommend
    appropriate legal structure based on Rwandan law
  • Present
    conclusions and evidence regarding the feasibility of proposed student
    loan fund, along with associated cost and funding requirements
  • If
    Akilah, Acacia, and donors agree to move forward with the launch of fund,
    this position could be extended to involve training and capacity building
    of Rwandan staff to manage the administration of the fund.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum
    5-7 years experience working in microfinance or loan administration
  • International
    development experience preferred but not required
  • Willing
    to travel to Rwanda for a minimum of 2 weeks
  • Passion
    to serve female students in East Africa

Ideal start date:
January 2014

Salary: Commensurate
with experience, between $7-8,000 USD project fee, plus all travel, room and
board to Kigali for 2 weeks
