This is a 2-months consultancy position with the
possibility of extension based on successful delivery of stated objectives.
The Front-End Developer, reporting to the
Communications Director, will manage multiple front-end projects and will
implement digital, email, and online application projects as needed.

 

Qualifications:
  • A degree in Computer Science and/or Web Design
  • Fluent in CSS, HMTL, and website development
    methodology
  • Familiar with email marketing principles
  • Ability to develop code for a variety of email
    marketing applications, including iContact, MailChimp, Campaign Monitor,
    etc.
  • Thorough understanding of CMS development,
    including Drupal, SPIP, WordPress, etc.
  • Technically resourceful and able to serve as main
    point of contact for technical issues involving website, newsletters,
    email, etc.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for Akilah’s mission,
    and a willingness to do what it takes to accomplish each project.
Responsibilities:
The front-end developer has the opportunity to
pioneer digital projects at the Akilah Institute for Women. Working closely
with the Communications Director, the front-end developer will be expected to
take full responsibility for developing front-end functionality on the website,
as well as building out our email newsletter capabilities. He or she will also
serve as the main technical lead for the organization, acting as a resource for
web-related questions, researching development solutions, and making technical
recommendations.
The position affords the opportunity to drive the
direction of Akilah’s digital offerings and to build out Akilah’s in-house
digital team. The successful candidate will be expected to grow in the role and
take on increasing responsibility, with the ultimate goal of having a robust
digital strategy that reflects and ties together content, branding, and
fundraising priorities.
In the immediate term (next 1-2 months), the
front-end developer will handle 4 main projects:
  1. Based on design mocks, create email newsletter
    templates in-browser using SPIP cms and within the iContact email
    marketing system.
  2. Develop 5-7 new page templates in WordPress
    CMS depending on design priorities.
  3. Research other email marketing solutions
    (MailChimp, Vertical Response, etc.), make full product comparison against
    iContact, and manage the migration.
  4. Perform ongoing site and newsletter
    maintenance as necessary.
