Start date: January 2014
This is a 12-month consultancy position with the
possibility of extension based on successful delivery of stated objectives.
Responsibilities
Systems Development
  • Work with the Akilah Country Director and
    Admissions Director to analyze the current admissions and recruitment
    systems and operations; develop and execute a strategic plan for improving
    efficiency and outcomes of all systems, criteria, rubrics, and information
    management, including written application, entrance assessments, and
    faculty interviews with potential candidates
  • Develop a new streamlined application process
    with all forms and documentation
  • Identify weaknesses within the current
    admissions systems and concrete objectives to improve these weaknesses
  • Create and manage the budget for the 2013
    admissions cycle
  • Develop an effective database for tracking all
    applicants and their progression through the admissions cycle
  • Develop a strategy for partnership development
    with local schools, community associations, and government offices
  • Manage a schedule for information sessions in
    targeted areas around the country with strategic partners
  • Document lessons and best practices learned
    from past admissions cycles
  • Work with the Akilah academics team to
    understand the challenges with current students, and identify critical
    skills for future applicants. Design entrance assessments that are in line
    with the academic offerings.
  • Supervise and manage admissions cycles on both
    campuses for 2013 (Rwanda: March 2014 intake, and Sept 2014 intake.
    Burundi: January 2014 intake, Jan 2015 intake).
  • Develop systems to prepare and maintain
    statistics regarding enrollment, geographical distribution of students,
    financial aid, and attrition. Interpret these statistics, when appropriate
    to the administration, faculty, and Board of Directors
  • Develop necessary materials and channels of
    information to provide relevant information to potential candidates
    regarding tuition fees, loans programs, etc.
Capacity Building
  • Provide intensive training and support to the
    Admissions Directors and Associates on both Rwanda and Burundi campuses in
    areas such as Microsoft Excel, professional communication, problem solving,
    database management, and admissions systems that are being developed.
    Conduct a performance assessment of the admissions team to evaluate the
    understanding of the new systems in place as well as the team readiness
    for their future implementation
  • Support the Admissions Director to develop a
    system of open houses for potential students and their families
Marketing
  • Provide necessary content and direction to the
    Communications Manager who will develop a marketing and communications
    strategy for 2013-2014 for both Rwanda and Burundi campuses including
    radio adverts, print media, press releases, etc.
  • Conduct focus groups with current Akilah
    students to understand how they learned about Akilah and target marketing
    efforts accordingly
  • Develop strong partnerships with other
    institutions, networks, schools or groups who can assist with identifying
    quality students
  • Identify two current students as Student
    Ambassadors and prepare them with public speaking training in order to
    attend secondary schools and events and represent Akilah
