Ahazaza
Independent School was established through the initiative of a small group of
residents of Muhanga in October 2005, to provide quality education to children
in a rural area. The school which started operating in January 2006, now in
2017 has close to 340 students divided into 13 classes with ages ranging from 3
in the nursery to 12 years old in Primary 6.
The
philosophy of the school is based on humanistic values that respect each
individual by teaching genuine freedom of thought and caring for quality of
life. The courses taught at Ahazaza Independent School aim at contributing to
the building of a society that protects freedom, favours initiative and
develops a sense of responsibility with a particular emphasis on the full and
unconditional respect of freedom of thought.
Ahazaza
School is seeking to hire a full time General Manager to lead and manage all
aspects of the organization, including engaging the community, managing
financial/ fundraising affairs, and supporting the board of directors. The
individual will use their strong leadership skills, financial management
skills, and fundraising skills to support the operations of the organization.
Applicants for this position will be self-motivated individuals with a high
degree of initiative and professionalism. 
We
are urgently looking for a full-time education director for the Ahazaza School
which comprises a primary school, kindergarten and a crèche.
JOB
DESCRIPTION
Main
task:
The
key role of the Education Director is to provide advice and training to
teachers and support staff and in particular to provide training in the use of
educational materials and techniques. He will also coordinate educational and
pedagogical work in teams and advise teachers on how to comply with local,
state and national standards and will work closely also with the teachers and
support staff to make sure that the school’s rules and regulations are
respected.
More
generally, he will also ensure that the school is in full compliance will
national and local rules and regulations not only with respect to education but
also with respect to any other areas of interest to the school and the teachers
in particular (e.g. safety regulations, tax rules, labor rules and
requirements, etc). in this respect, the Education Director will also supervise
the conduct and compliance by the teachers and school staff with all rules and
regulations.
Job
Duties cover in particular:
  • Research
    and select textbooks, as well as other educational materials and order or
    authorize the purchase of supplies
  • Ensure
    that educational methods of the school are correctly implemented in all
    classes including by mentoring new teachers, teaching workshops or
    seminars and observing teachers in the classroom.
  • Ensure
    integration and use of technology in the classrooms.
  • Provide
    constructive feedback based on teacher evaluations.
  • Prepare
    and propose to the school Director budget allocations, expenditures, etc.
    for the purpose of ensuring that educational targets are met and national
    and local rules and regulations are complied with
  • Perform
    personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for
    the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing enhancing productivity of
    personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
  • Prepare
    the timetable of the class schedules of the teachers at the beginning of
    each quarter.
  • Ensure
    that all courses are organized and prepared in advance and that the
    teachers have proper materials on time.
  • Manage
    the aspects of attendance of the staff employed in the school,
    justification of absences and holidays and discipline.
  • More
    generally, ensure that the instructions given by the Rwandan Ministry of
    Education are complied with.
  • Prepare
    written materials as might be required (including correspondence, memos,
    reports, policy/procedures, budget, etc.) for the purpose of documenting
    activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information
Secondary
tasks
It
is anticipated that the Education Director will devote part of his time
(approximately 30 to 50% of his time) to tasks that are not purely educational
but cover the general management of the school in support of the school
Director.
These
tasks cover in particular:
  • Manage
    the maintenance of school infrastructuresbased on problems/issues
    identified by the staff (ex; repair of broken window/table/chair; repair
    of wifi or electricity issues, etc) by ordering the repairs and
    supervising the work that might also be done by subcontractors.
  • Manage
    the stocks and prepare a budget at the beginning of each quarter.
  • Oversee
    the accountant’s work (e.g. the proper keeping of the books, the financial
    management of the stocks, the cash register, bank reconciliation,
    preparing the financial statements, the payment of validated invoices,
    taxes) and ensure that this work is done on time.
  • Manage
    the proper follow-up of payments related to the functioning of the NGO and
    in particular the payment of the school fees, ensure that reminders are
    sent if necessary.
  • Make
    sure that the insurance for buildings, equipment, personnel and children
    is paid on time.
  • Manage
    the filing and ordering of all administrative documents and filing
    cabinets necessary for the proper functioning of the school (legal
    documents, administrative documents, letters, enrollment files, staff
    files, meetings, etc.).
  • Ensure
    that school regulations are up-to-date, update if necessary and communicate
    it to staff, parents andchildren of the school.
HIERARCHY
The
Education Director will maintain direct relations with the school’s employees,
with the parents and with outside sub-contractors and suppliers.
He will report directly to the school Director and will provide all necessary
information and questions to the school’s management board.
Preferred
Qualifications:
  • Minimum
    Bachelor’s Degreein Economics, entrepreneurship, Business with education,
    School management or any other related field.
  • Minimum
    five years’ experience working in school environment.
  • Strong
    organizational, and time management skills.
  • Experience
    providing training, feedback, and motivating employees.
  • Strong
    interpersonal, oral and written communications (English, French, and Kinyarwanda
    )
  • Experience
    in public speaking, influencing and building relationships.
  • Proficient
    in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
POSSIBLE
EVOLUTION OF THE CONTRACT AND THE FUNCTION
Depending
on performance and his/her abilities it is anticipated that the Education
Director will eventually be assisted by a School Assistant and will gradually
take more responsibilities that may ultimately lead him/her to become the
Director of the School within a reasonable period of time.
PROPOSED
SALARY:

300,000 RWF NET to be readjusted after an initial period of 3 months depending
on performance, seniorityand experience.
