Overview
Edith Cowan University is a large, multi-campus institution serving communities
nationally and internationally. The University has two metropolitan campuses at
Mount Lawley and Joondalup, and also serves Western Australia’s South West
Region from a campus at Bunbury, 200 km south of Perth.
ECU has been at the forefront of teacher education for over 100 years and is
the largest School of Education in Western Australia. The School of Education
provides up-to-date and progressive courses giving students the opportunity to
gather the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience needed to graduate as an
outstanding teacher. Courses are available in a range of early childhood,
primary and secondary education settings. The primary education course is a
progressive course dedicated to producing future teachers ready to enter the
primary education teaching profession. A key feature of this course is the
range and number of professional practice experiences offered to pre-service
teacher education students, ensuring they can make the essential connection
between theory and practice, while building both professional and generic
employability skills in real teaching environments.
This academic position will have a focus on Primary Education and in particular
leading the teaching at undergraduate and Graduate Diploma units with a focus
on English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D). It would be expected
that the successful candidate will also have a proven track record (or
demonstrated potential) in contemporary and innovative research in Primary
Education and other associated fields.
The successful applicant will have:
• A PhD in a related discipline;
• Extensive practical experience in EAL/D teaching
(preferably at the Primary level).
• Experience of successful teaching and research in Primary
Education and broader educational settings;
• Experience in course and/or unit development, including a
demonstrated ability to design innovative and contemporary curriculum,
assessment and pedagogical teaching and learning at tertiary level in the field
of Primary Education. Experience in teaching EAL/D at the tertiary level
preferable.
• Experience in course and/or unit coordination within a
higher education institution.
• Demonstrated commitment to developing a research profile;
• Capacity to foster research with other groups and
individuals within the School and across the University;
To be considered as a Senior Lecturer, applicants in addition to the above
points will need to have the following:
• A proven record of research and publication relevant to
primary education preferably in the area of EAL/D and English as a Foreign
Language (EFL).
• Considerable PhD Supervision experience with students who
specialise in EAL/D or English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
• Clearly demonstrated leadership skills
• Must have a proven track record of obtaining grant
applications.

Benefits & Remuneration
This full-time, ongoing position attracts remuneration of $95,979 to $113,978
(ALEVB) or $117,573 to $135,570 (ALEVC) plus 17% University superannuation
contribution.
