ANIP Internships for Australian and International Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students in Australia

The Australian National University offers The
Australian National Internships Program (ANIP) for Australian and International
undergraduate and postgraduate students to work at the heart of Australian
policy and politics. The program arranges 13 weeks research-orientated
internships at a variety of Canberra locations. ANIP is the only program that
offers Australian Commonwealth Parliament internships. Semester 1
2014 applications close on 22nd October 2013.

Field of Internship: As an intern you will undertake a research project. The area of research
will be negotiated and agreed with the placement host. Here are some examples
of research areas former interns have explored: (a) Australian policy on child
abductions, implementation of the convention on biological diversity and barter
in the Russian economy with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. (b)
Defence and security issues with the Sea Power Centre and Air Power Australia.
(c) Foreign aid and development with the Australian Council for International
Development or Care Australia.

Eligibility: -You must
be a currently enrolled tertiary student, studying at any Australian or
International university and have completed two full years of study (96 units
or equivalent). You may be either an undergraduate or a graduate student from
any discipline.

Internship Open for International Students: Yes
Is this paid internship? No. As an intern you will undertake a research project for which
you will receive academic credit.
Internship Description: As an intern you will undertake a research project for which you will
receive academic credit. An ANIP internship is not work experience or
unpaid office support. The major focus is the completion of a research report
and formal presentation. Depending on the program, interns will write an 4000 –
20000 word research report. In addition Interns attend weekly workshops focused
on research methods and public policy. Interns develop career and research
skills while building professional networks that can give them an advantage in
a competitive employment market. Interns complete a 500 word research project
proposal worth 10 per cent. The major assessment component is the final
research report which will account for at least 70 per cent of the final
grade.Interns are also required to make a 40 minute oral presentation on their
research report to an audience of their peers at the end of the internship
worth 20 per cent.
