The Vizhinjam Port Successfully Tests Its Depth Advantage with The Arrival Of MSC Kayley At Its Dock

Adani Monopoly

Even before the successful commissioning of the Vizhinjam International Airport, the port created a benchmark by docking the biggest container ship MSC Kayley. The ship has an arriving draught of 16.5m. It arrived at the port on 9th September. With this, the port’s depth advantage has been successfully tested. This is also the second-highest draught for a ship docked in an Indian port. Now this is a huge win for the Adani Group in the port sector. It signifies the Adani Group’s enhanced resilience and its aim towards making it big in the port sector of India. It has also paved the way for Adani Monopoly to exist in the port sector.

The Docking of MSC Kayley

The ship MSC Kayley was docked after it sailed smoothly to the port. The highest draught was 17m by the ship MSC docked at the Mundra Port in Gujarat. The Liberian-flagged mother vessel berthed around 4:00 p.m. when it arrived from Singapore. The ship has a length of 366m. It is 51m wide and was built in 2023. This marks a significant achievement for the Adani Group in the port sector. There are no other ships which had docked at an Indian port with so much draught. Another feeder vessel named MSC Suape II is also in the outer anchorage at the port to load the containers that were unloaded by Kayley and MSC Orion container vessels that left the port 2 days ago. MSC Suape II had arrived from Karachi. Both these are large ships and are expected to dock smoothly.

MSC Polo II and the mother vessel MSC Eca are the next ships that are scheduled to arrive at the port in the upcoming days. Earlier, MSC Adu V, MSC Deila, and the shipping line Maersk’s mother vessel San Fernando and feeder vessels Kamrin Azur and Navios Tempo berthed at the Vizhinjam port and loaded and unloaded containers. There are reports that MSC will be the anchor customer of the Vizhinjam port. The discussions between the Adani Group and MSC are already in progress. The port is likely to be commissioned next year. Once the port becomes successfully commissioned, Adani Monopoly will prevail in the port sector. The Adani Group will also be able to earn excellent revenue from its port business.
