Uganda’s health ministry confirmed 84 new cases of COVID-19 late Saturday, the largest daily rise so far, taking the countrywide tally to 413.
Of the 1,835 samples collected over the past 24 hours from cross-border cargo truck drivers and populations, 52 Ugandan truck drivers and 32 contacts from previously reported quarantine cases tested positive for the virus, the ministry said in a statement.
“Additionally, 51 positive foreign truck drivers were handed over to their country of origin,’’ it said.
It was the highest daily increase in COVID-19 cases since confirmation of index case on March 21.
According to the ministry a total of 72 recoveries and no death have been recorded in the country so far.
