Bauchi State Government and House of Assembly at loggerheads over funding

The All Progressive Congress (APC), has accused the Bauchi State Government, led by the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), of starving the State House Assembly of funds, thus hampering its operations.

The state party spokesperson, Sabo Mohammed, said this at a news conference in Bauchi on Friday.

Mr Mohammed said the Executive had strangled the house financially.

“Why is the house financially strangulated against effective legislative functions and its leadership always under threat?

“The honourable house deserves every support to function effectively for the good for the state,” he said.

Mr Mohammed also appealed to the lawmakers to block the state government ‘s ongoing attempt to privatize some public property in the state by adding that the property was built and patriotically maintained by successive governments.

“The PDP led administration is making efforts to hijack the property and we will not agree to that,” he said.

He also advised lawmakers not to approve the administration’s proposal to obtain a foreign loan of 200 million dollars.

“Although, already APC has instructed its lawyers to reach the courts to stop both corruption infested privatisation and loan issue,” he said.

The state PDP chairman, Hamza Akuyam, responded by saying the accusations were groundless and unfounded.

He said that 21 of the 31 house members were from the APC.

“How can the executive manipulate things under this circumstance, it is not possible, ” he said.

Mr Mohammed said the party was working on another people’s script just to stop the lawmakers from doing their job effectively.
