Round-up of today’s Bundesliga matches

Following their 5-0 thrashing of Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday away from home, Bayern Munich are on course for another Bundesliga title.

Still basking in the euphoria of their vital win over the week away from Borussia Dortmund, the Bavarian ensured they extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table to 10 points with the comprehensive win on Saturday.

It took Bayern 15 minutes before they recorded their first goal against Fortuna and it was an own goal from Zanka, sadly for the hosts.

And then on, Bayern never looked back as they doubled their lead through one of their full-backs Benjamin Pavad, just before the half-hour mark.

Robert Lewandowski ensured that Bayern had a three-goal advantage in the half-time break as he scored his first goal against Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 43rd minute.

The Polish completed a full set of Bundesliga clubs with that goal which he scored against either for Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund.

From where they ended in the first half, Bayern started scoring two more goals barely seven minutes into the second half.

There may have been more goals on the night, but the Fortuna goalkeeper ensured that the rampaging Bayern Munich team didn’t completely annihilate his side.

To clinch the title Bayern needs nine points from the last five games.

It was another bitter tale for Taiwo Awoniyi from Nigeria and his teammates from Mainz elsewhere, as they were condemned to a lone goal defeat in Hoffenheim ‘s hands.

The home defeat keeps Mainz firmly rooted in the relegation zone and is now in a race to beat the drop against time.

Also in the bottom half of the table, free falling Schalke 04 continued as they lost at home against the ever-improving Werder Bremen.

Apparently Hertha Berlin forgot their poor form pre-break and won 2-0 against Augsburg, while Wolfsburg fell 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt.
