At least seven persons have died and five others injured as armed robbers invade a commercial bank at Ido-ani, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday, 8th April, 2019.
The armed robbers were reported to have invaded the bank which is the only commercial bank in the town located at Isewa quarters at about 2 pm. Information reaching us revealed that those affected were five officials of the bank, a vice-principal of a school who was at the bank as a customer, and a policeman.
The robbery was reported to have lasted for about one hour and the robbers were reported to have carted away an undisclosed amount of money from the bank.
Eye witness reports revealed that the armed robbers stormed the bank premises shooting sporadically and proceeded to the banking hall after destroying the security doors with dynamite.
Reports have it that efforts were made to get the attention of soldiers at Isua Akoko military check point and the police in the town, it was reported that before the arrival of the soldier the armed robbers had concluded their operations and had left the bank.
The injured victims which suffered various degrees of gunshot injuries were taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owo and at Ido-Ani General Hospital for treatment.
According the report from the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, a superintendent of police, who confirmed the incident stated that one of the armed robbers was arrested and a full scale investigation has started.
He, however, refused to give further details on the suspect, saying investigation was ongoing and effort is being made to arrest the others.
