The police in Ekiti State have arrested a 23 years old man with two human hands in Ijero Ekiti. Following the arrest, the police have stepped up investigations into human parts peddling in the state.

Information made available by the police spokesperson, Caleb Ikechukwu, revealed that the human parts peddler arrested with two human hands was identified as Nifemi. Nifemi was arrested in a routine stop and search operation of the Nigeria Police at Ijero Ekiti where Nifemi was found to be in possession of two human hands which he concealed in a black polythene bag.

He also reportedly confessed to the police that he got the parts from Asa farmstead, near Okemesi.

During interrogation by the police, “The young man said he got the two hands at Asa farmstead near Okemesi and had brought them to Ijero.

Caleb Ikechukwu, in a speech on Monday 8th April 2019 in Ado Ekiti, indicated that the suspect could be an agent of a syndicate specialised in peddling human parts for ungodly purposes. He said investigations had started and efforts were on to break the syndicate.

Caleb Ikechukwu, in a statement said that, “Our men arrested him during one of our operations. We are gathering more facts about the case, because we are aware he has been operating with some people and they have to be brought to book.”

Before this incidence, the police have in the past few weeks, increased security surveillance in the area since last weekend following fears of a likely attack by bandits. The state has also been plagued by series of kidnappings and ritual killing in the recent past. Despite the efforts of security agencies in combing the forest in the affected areas, the problem has refused to abate.
