The governor of Kano State, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, has in a goodwill message expressed appreciation to the people of Kano State for standing by him to re-elect him as governor of the state for a second term.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, was announced as winner of then Kano State governorship position by The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday 24th March, 2019 after the re-run election conducted by INEC in the state on Saturday, 23rd March, 2019.
The re-run election in Kano State on 23rd March, 2019 was as a result of the fact that INEC declared the election held on 9th March, 2019 in the state inconclusive and re-scheduled a re-run elections in 28 out of the 44 local government areas in the state and at the end of the supplementary election, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won by scoring 45,876 votes to beat the Abba Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 10,239.
The vote scored in the re-run election was added to those of 9th March, 2019. Which The State Returning Officer, Prof. Bello Shehu, announced that the governor Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of the APC got a total of 1,033,695 votes while Yusuf Abba of the PDP polled 1,024,713.
In expressing his appreciation to the people of the state, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje in his re-election speech called on all to join hands with him to build the state. He reminded the people that elections are over so they should come together and build the state together irrespective of their political sentiments. He promised the people that his government will be all inclusive and everyone in the state will be carried along in administration of the state in the next four years.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje also thanked the people of the state for their trust and for believing in his capacity to lead them and for the peaceful conduct of the 23rd March 2019 supplementary election. The governor went ahead to assure the people that he will not at anytime fail them. He promised to consolidate on his achievement and also embark on people oriented project. In his own words he stated that, “We going to complete all projects and initiate new ones and we are also open to new ideas and new vision.”
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje also that God for seeing him through after a fierce fight during his re-election bid. He also extended that to all his supporters and other people of Kano who do not share his political view by saying, “I thank all who voted me, those that did not vote me and those who did not vote at all.”
He reads out some of his major focus for the next four years thus, “Girl child education, agriculture, women and youth empowerment, healthcare delivery, peace and security will be my focus in the next four years. I thank you for the fresh mandate and I promise to serve you better because the victory is not for me or my deputy, the victory is for the good people of Kano. As we get ready to start our second term, I urge you to continue to maintain the peace we have so far enjoyed.”
INEC was not left out of his speech as he recognized the professionalism of INEC through the election in the state and in the country at large.
